Clark spends time in the Fortress of Solitude and is forced to choose between either saving the planet or saving his friend Chloe from freezing to death. Lana Lang comes face to face with two aliens who arrived in a spaceship during the meteor shower. The aliens are Kryptonians and they leave devastation in their wake as they hunt for Kal-El.

Notes

This is James Marsters first appearance in Smallville. He goes on to play Brainiac in several more episodes this season.

Smallville won it's timeslot against Alias, Survivor and Joey, a first for the show.

This episode heavily references the first two Superman movies and there are in fact some short sequences of footage taken from Superman: The Movie and used during the Jor-El training sequence.
