Smartparts
When I saw an email in my mail program with the title Smartparts I almost dismissed it as spam until I noticed that the title also said sci-fi feature film project. I’m rather glad I read further. Smartparts is an independent science fiction film being produced by Justin James, Mark Benard and Derek Franson.

The film is about a small-time grifter, Rodney Ubay, who rents a storage cubical in a warehouse as a hideout. It turns out though that there are several fugitive robots (from a 1950s military program) also in this warehouse and one of them may have gone insane.
James says that the aim is to mix action and humor with odd characters and outrageous sistuations without slipping into camp. The robots in the film are apparently all computer animated and if you watch the 4 minute promo clip they’ve put up at their site I think you’ll be pretty impressed with how this thing looks.
The promo is intended to convey the style they are aiming for in this film and I liked what I saw. The special effects of the robots might not quite match up to Revenge of the Sith, but they are pretty good.
Note: It seems that Justin has been in contact with SFSignal as well. Let’s hope they get the attention that I think this project deserves.
