Star Wars III Like Titanic?

I’m really not quite sure what to make of the following quote from a Reuters article about George Lucas and Star Wars III - The Revenge of the Sith.

“It’s not like the first one. It’s more emotional. I describe it as a ‘Titanic’ in space. It’s a real tearjerker, and it will be received in a way that none of us can expect…”

Now just how bad that actually is depends on how he means to compare Revenge of the Sith with Titanic. If he just means, its a blockbuster movie with an ending that we know before we go to see it, then fine.

If, as I suspect his comparison means that we’re going to be forced to endure more of the hideous “love” scenes that were in the middle part of Star Wars II, god help us all. Doesn’t he realize how little that belongs in a Star Wars film?

I’m starting to think that Lucas actually doesn’t have the faintest idea what makes Star Wars, Star Wars.

  1. GL makes Star Wars whatever he wants Star Wars to be ;-)
Personally I’m quite happy with the new films, I have the old ones as the Star Wars I remember (well, baring the special editions), and kids growing up now will be more than happy with the prequel trilogy.
And we’re going to get to see some great lightsaber fights in ROTS, so how bad can it be?

  2. I think the old ones where better. I love all the eye candy in the new ones, but there not as good as the old star wars IMO.
