Stargate SG-1: Its Good To Be King
The descent of Harry Maybourne’s character is a perfect example of what has happened to this series. Once Maybourne was a slimy but capable foil for SG-1. Capable, dangerous and not to be lightly ignored. Now, he is a comedic rogue with minimal depth.
Much the same can be said for this entire episode. It wasn’t bad precisely, it was just terribly shallow and predictable. The saving grace was my fondness for the SG-1 characters. The lowest point the low tech world that looked like something from an episode of the original series of Star Trek.
Unfortunately Stargate SG-1 seems to have lost all forward momentum and all we are left with is a stand alone episodes where we tread water. We are told that Baal is defeating the other System Lords, but we get no sense of urgency about this potentially huge threat. We are told that the system lord Ares is a major threat and yet he turns out to last about 30 seconds.
It’s not really bad and it was a pleasant enough way to spend 50 minutes but it just feels like a show that’s going nowhere.
