Stargate SG-1: Reckoning ,Part 1 A Review

Finally the second half of this season of Stargate SG-1 kicks into high gear. All the stuff that’s been going on barely mentioned in the background for most of this season comes right to the front in Reckoning, Part 1.

Not only do we have the return of the Replicators, and specifically the evil Carter clone, but we also get to see them take on the Goa’uld System Lords and Baal. Not content with that, Thor puts in an appearance as do the Jaffa rebels and a certain sinister villain is lurking in the background once more.

This is what I used to expect from Stargate SG-1. Plenty of action, some humor and plots that actually seem to be going somewhere. This is most definitely not a stand-alone episode. Everything that’s going on here relates to episodes from the previous seven seasons of the show. Not only that but it actually makes some logical sense as a progression of what we’ve seen before.

The scale of the disaster that’s occuring is impressive. The Goa’uld have been built up for so long as formidible that to see their ships wiped out so casually is chilling. While we know that with Season Nine round the corner, inevitably SG-1 will win the day the writers have once again brougt some tension back into the stories.

There’s a feeling that there must be some consequences to events this large in scale. Lets hope that the second part of this two part story is able to hold up to the introduction we got this week. Every time I think Stargate SG-1 is out, they find some way to renew my interest in the show.
