Survivors Remake From BBC
The BBC is producing a new version of the 70’s science fiction show Survivors. Survivors is about the people who are left after a virus wipes out the majority of the world’s population and raises the question of who would people survive without 21st Century comforts.
The original series was created by Terry Nation (Doctor Who and Blake’s 7). The new series by Adrian Hodges re-works and updates the series with a cast that includes:

Freema Agyeman as Jenny; Nikki Amuka–Bird as Samantha Willis; Max Beesley as Tom Price; Shaun Dingwall as David; Julie Graham as Abby Grant; Paterson Joseph as Greg; Phillip Rhys as Al; Zoe Tapper as Anya and newcomer Chahak Patel as 11-year-old Najid.
Survivors is currently filming in Manchester with an intended broadcast in the UK of Autumn 2008 on BBC One. No word yet whether the show will make it over to the US.
I’m sure this latest revamp will cause another round of eye rolling, but it’s a concept that is due for revisiting with the increased awareness of ecological issues and not to mention terrorist worries. Handled properly there’s a lot of potential in this sort of set up.
Then again, handled badly we’ll just have another soap opera on our hands.
