The Greatest Show In The Galaxy #6

Welcome, after a two week absence to the 6th edition my sci-fi Carnival, The Greatest Show in The Galaxy. If nothing else the delay between carnivals did result in a bumper crop of posts, so let's keep the introduction short and get to the point of the whole thing:

Television

Mother Jones RN presents Nurse Ratched's Place: Confessions of a Closet Trekkie posted at Nurse Ratched's Place. When people talk about the original Star Trek, there's a tendency to talk about the big three. But what about Nurse Chapel, could she be a role model for nurses everywhere? According to Nurse Ratched she just might be.

Niall Harrison presents Heroes posted at Torque Control, saying, "Review of the first two episodes of the new tv show."

Heroes is a show I haven't had a chance to watch, and reading this review I think I may have made a mistake there. The problem is, what do I take off my TiVo's ToDo list to put Heroes on it?

Austen presents Please Try Battlestar Galactica Tonight posted at Red Inked, saying, "Our blog about writing, words, and culture is written by three women. This post from Eliot emplores tv viewers to try out Battlestar Galactica."

This was submitted last week but of course I was off on vacation. I think the plea to watch Battlestar Galactica is still valid though, it's a highlight modern television science fiction I think.

Jon Swift presents On Battlestar Galactica Heroic Cylons Battle Vicious Terrorists posted at Jon Swift, saying, "The Sci Fi Channel show is a moving and haunting allegory about why we should stay the course in Iraq. The heroes are a deeply religious race, called the Cylons, who struggle to bring democratic ideals and Christian values to a planet called New Caprica (Iraq, of course) in the face of an increasingly violent insurgency."

I just know someones going to come away from this one with the wrong idea. Take a deep breath and look at what is being written here. Read between the lines. It's a good lesson not to assume that everything you see has a simple left/right political bias.

Film

Nehring presents Nehring The Edge: THE STAR WARS FRANCHISE (1977-2005) posted at Nehring The Edge, saying, "A full review of all six Star Wars movies including the lame Episodes I - III. Something smells like Dooku!"

It's an overview of the Star Wars movie franchise and while I don't hate Lucas quite as much as Nehring seems to, I find myself largely in agreement as far as most of the movies go. I still prefer the original Star Wars over Empire Strikes Back though…

Humor

Avant News presents Livestock, Pets Harnessed As Important New Energy Resource posted at Avant News.

The Cownetic Turbine almost seems practical. Environmentally sound and an unlimited energy resource right? Course I'm not sure how much it would cost to keep and feed a cow.

Mark A. Rayner presents Big Brother is not only watching, he?s watching the temperature of your naughty bits posted at the skwib, saying, "more SFnal satire"

The skwib is back with an entry that's both satire and also a little disturbing because I can think of a few places I've worked where they'd probably think this device was a good idea!

And there you go, that's it for this week. Nothing from me again I'm afraid. This is going to be a quiet month from me, between the vacation I've just come back from and my parents visiting for a couple of weeks, I'm probably not going to have time to write anything too deep. I will however be back with another edition of The Greatest Show In The Galaxy on Friday 20th October.

Submit your blog article to the next edition of The Greatest Show in the Galaxy using our carnival submission form.
