Tim Minear Set To Work Angel Spinoff Film Featuring Spike
The rumor mill is starting up again about the possibility of an Angel television movie spinoff featuring James Marsters character Spike. There has been some buzz about this tv movie since Angel was taken off the air by the WB. However with Joss Whedon heavily involved in his movie project Serenity, nothing ever came of it. Well suddenly everyone is talking about it again.
Back on July 22nd, David Janollari of The WB said that he would gladly do a TV movie featuring the Spike character if Marsters and Whedon wanted to do one. No one put too much stock in that as network heads are always saying things like that and usually nothing comes of it. However, just this week James Marsters had the following to say:
“I just got off the phone with someone who talked to Joss [Whedon] yesterday, who claimed that [the "Spike The Vampire"] project was very much on the front burner. Joss has never told me anything like that. He’s checked with me twice, to see if I was interested. I said yes twice, and both times he’s been very clear that this doesn’t mean that anything’s going forward, [he] just wants to have [his] ducks in a row.”
Again, Marsters has always been eager to play the role again. But the strongest evidence that something is going on was yet to come. Just yesterday Tim Minnear was quoted as saying:
“I had lunch with Joss and he asked me if I wanted to write and direct some blonde vampire movie thing. Should I do it? (I of course said yes right off, still) Anything under 13 hours scares me. And anything over 13 hours… um. I got nothin’.” – Tim Minear
So what does it all mean? Well probably not as much as we might hope. My best guess at this stage would be that Whedon is finishing up with Serenity and has time to look at other projects. There’s no signed deal for a Spike tv movie, but he is looking into the possibility and making sure he has all the neccessary people on board if a deal is signed.
Assuming it does go ahead though, how does a movie that features Spike as the main character work exactly? Do they resolve the Angel cliffhanger? Do they feature some of the Angel cast? Or do they go back in to Spike’s past a ways?

i would be very interested in finding out what really happend in the series finally of angel. i wouldGO
assume that all of the characters (gun,`wess, spike and angel) were killed. if this spike spinoff will
put an end to all the questions i say GO FOR IT.

I’d be insanely happy if a buffy/angel spin-off was released, i’d much prefer a series over a movie but hey, a movie is better than nothing
maybe a Spinoff about Connar ?

I would definitely be interested in a spin-off, either of a show or a series just to get it out of my mind because it’s been driving me crazy that the WB did that, cut it off at that kind of cliff-hanger. I mean seriously, that was one of the dumbest things I believe they did, well no… I guess not if it allows for fans like myself to come back and say hey, yea get our spin-off back! So maybe it was a smart choice, and times are right now that the Strike is over with and maybe we can get a glimpse of what might happen in the Whedonverse in the world of Buffy and Angel. I’d rather have anything back than nothing at all so movie is a good idea, probably the best bet.
