Tor and Sci Fi TeamFor New Book Promotion

The Sci Fi Channel and Tor Books are teaming to launch the Sci Fi Essential book promotion. One Tor book each month will be marked as a Sci Fi Essential and will recieve additional promotion including sample chapters and sneak peeks on SciFi.com and being highlighted in Sci Fi Magazine’s books section.

The Sci Fi Essential book program will launch in July and the first book to be stamped as a Sci Fi Essential will be Cory Doctorow’s Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town. August’s Sci Fi Essential book is Karl Schroeder’s Lady of Mazes. September will be The Road to Dune by Frank Herbert, Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson

While I like the idea of taking advantage of the Sci Fi Channel’s huge (in genre terms) audience to promote written science fiction, looking at the initial selection of Sci Fi Essentials, I really don’t think any of them actually required any additional promotion. How about picking some lesser known authors and titles in future?
