Trek United Plans Season 5 Of Enterprise

Star Trek fan organization TrekUnited has announced plans to continue the series Star Trek: Enterprise with what it is calling Enterprise: S5, twenty 45 minute episodes produced by fans. No decision has been made yet whether this series will be animated or live action.

TrekUnited has established a writers contest allowing fans to submit a written act for the current pre-plotted episode during a 4 day window. The submitted acts are then voted on and the winning act will be used in the episode. Currently 18 of the 20 episodes have the plot and summaries already established while the remaining 2 episodes are what is being called wildcards as the plot and story will be decided by fans. Completed stories will be unified by a story editor in order to merge the different writing styles of the contributors.

Fans will also be asked to contribute music, art, storyboards, models and anamatics. Since this is not a Paramount funded or approved project it is entirely fan based and there will be no profit or fund raising for Enterprise: S5. Distribution of the resulting episodes will be free. Enterprise: S5 will be set two years after Terra Prime and will have a season long arc focusing on the Romulan War.

There have been several fan based Star Trek series recently, but this is by far the biggest project announced. I’m a little dubious about their chosen writing method though and suspect it will be messy. However, if they are able to come up with a season of Enterprise worth watching it will confirm the common fan criticism of Paramount and co.
