Tripping the Rift Season One DVD Review

Tripping the rift is an animated comedy by the Sci Fi Channel. For some reason I've never actually managed to catch an episode of it until now. However the complete first season has been released on DVD and I was offered a copy to review so I grabbed the opportunity to see what the show had to offer.
The DVD set is very nicely packaged, with a total of three discs presenting all 13 thirty minute episodes from Season One of Tripping the Rift. There isn't much in the way of extras on here though, just some production artwork and that's about it. So if you're going to buy the DVD it's for the show itself, not for anything else on the DVD.
What can I say about the show then? Well it's crude. It's very crude. The humor certainly isn't subtle and it isn't always funny. There's definitely an approach of just keeping slinging things and something's bound to work. And as often as not it does.
The show is computer animated and while it certainly doesn't compare well to the likes of Shrek, it's certainly passable animation. Put it this way, if you have no problem watching The Simpsons or South Park, you've got no business complaining about the animation in Tripping the Rift.
I'll definitely give them points for being willing to tackle any topic and not worry who they may offend. I also like the off the wall inventiveness. However they do rely perhaps a little heavily on the obvious Star Trek and Star Wars parody elements.
So… crude, obvious, but frequently funny. Not bad!
