Sci Fi Wire is reporting that Joss Whedon has sold a spec script to Universal Pictures. Whedon who is known to genre fans for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly plans to write and direct the supernatural thriller which goes by the title of Goner.
It was Universal Pictures who produced Whedon's directorial debut Serenity, which is based on his short lived science fiction series Firefly. Whedon had this to say about Goner:
"It's the story of a young woman's journey that involves a great deal of horror and some heroics," Whedon told the trade paper. "It's certainly darker than Serenity, and there are a lot of left turns along the way. It is something I had in mind for a while, and it just poured out of me when I finished my film."
It looks as though Whedon will be a very busy man even though he has no current tv shows. On top of his work on Serenity which will go on general release on September 30th , he is also set to both write and direct a movie based on the DC comics character Wonder Woman. If that wasn't enough he has recently expressed interest in doing a television movie based around the vampire character of Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.
