Providing the Information That Sci-Fi Fans Need

Want To Write About SciFi?

We interrupt your scheduled programming for an important announcement. Well okay I don’t have any scheduled programming at the weekends, that’s why I decided to post this now in the first place. But I do have an announcement.

I’m planning to start a few new weekly columns here on Solar Flare and I’m looking for some enthusiastic contributors to write them. The columns I’m thinking about are:

  • Weekly SciFi TV News Roundup
  • Weekly SciFi Movie News Roundup
  • Weekly Comics News Roundup
  • Best of the SciFi Web
  • Focus On {insert Show Name}

Science-fiction books, magazines, film, TV, ga...Image via Wikipedia
I’ve posted some weekly roundups recently and they have proved to be popular articles, but I’d like to make it a more consistent feature. Trying to write three roundup columns myself on top of the other articles I write has proved impractical. The writer of each column would be free to pick whatever TV/Movie/Comic or web related news they chose to highlight (so long as it has some connection to science fiction or fantasy) and would be encouraged to add their own comments.

In addition to those I would be interested in running articles centered on some of the current SciFi shows that would feature reviews and information specific to that series. The column names I’m using here are merely descriptive, more imaginative ones are welcomed.

In return for a weekly column I can offer you a byline on all of your posts which can link to your site or project. All contributors are listed in the right hand column of every page of the site and I will be happy to link to your website in that column as well for as long as you are an active columnist (the byline links will remain in perpetuity however). There may also be the opportunity for review copies of the occasional DVD or book, depending on what offers come my way.

If you are interested, please contact me.

    Hello.

What I would like to see in a column are feature articles that link the film/TV show with the comic/book it is based on, or in the case that a film/TV show spawns comics, or books or audio plays (like Stargate SG-1), to let us know what’s out there, for those of us who cant’ get enough.

For example right now, there are 10 Dresden Files books, several short stories in collections, the DVD boxed set from Sci-Fi, and now there is a comic, 4 parts/issues, with the first 2 already out.

I very much appreciate the news you provide on a lot of the odd and more unusual Sci-Fi tidbits, this site is about the only place to hear about some things, so thanks!

  2. I want to thank you for that suggestion. There are a lot of spinoffs these days. How many people are aware of the Battlestar Galactica comics I wonder? Doctor Who of course has masses of novel and audio tie-ins as well.

It might take a bit of research to tie it all together, but I think they might be very popular articles. I will look into the idea.

I’m glad you are enjoying the news that we post. Since it’s basically just me doing most of the articles (with the noble exception of Manxoom Vroom’s weekly column) I can’t compete with the big sites when it comes to breaking news, so I try to go for different angles.
