Westworld Remake Back On The Table

There has been talk of a re-make of Westworld for years and years now but it essentially came to a halt when Arnold Schwarzenegger became Governor of California. Westworld starred Yul Brynner as a cowboy robot gone crazy in a robotic themepark world. It was written and directed by Michael Crichton who is probably better know for The Andromeda Strain and Jurassic Park. The original film was quite popular back in 1973 when it was released.

Now producer Jerry Weintraub has put the remake of Westworld back on the table and has lined up the director of The Cell, Tarsem to direct the remake. With Arnold no longer attached to the film, no casting details are known at this time.

I have some dim memories of the original Westworld and it was a decent enough concept in a robots go mad sort of way. But it would need some major updating in order to work now. Not just in terms of special effects, but everything about the story outside of the concept would need an update. Still its actually a remake that could potentially work if done right.
