What is Ridley Scott’s New Project?

Speaking to Eclipse Magazine, director Ridley Scott has indicated that he has a new science fiction movie in the works and it will be his next project after he finishes his Robin Hood film Nottingham. But he’s not saying what it is.

We do have one clue mind you. Because Scott is quoted as saying:

“I waited for a book for 20 years and I have got the book.”

Scott’s previous science fiction movies are two of the pillars of the genre, Alien and Blade Runner, but his only recent involvement was producing The Andromeda Strain mini-series. He’s also been quite critical of recent movies, indicating they rely to heavily on special effects.

So what is the new movie? It doesn’t have to be a new book, it might just have taken him until now to secure the rights. I can’t even begin to guess at this point, but I can’t wait to find out. I think that both Alien and Blade Runner are brilliant movies (flawed in the case of Blade Runner, but brilliant never the less). The idea that we could get another genre movie with those lush visuals combined with a cohesive story?

  1. Blade runner flawed? It’s one of the best movies ever made. Perhaps all movies have flaws, but it would be tough to get any better than Blade Runner!

I’d love it to be Bank’s Player of Games (or any of his Culture novels for that matter) or Mieville’s Perdido Street Station, both of which would suit Scott’s visual style.

  3. I think the fact that there are three versions of Scott’s Blade Runner is reason enough to say that the movie is flawed. There’s also the issue of whether it is actually a good adaptation of the book.

Personally I love the movie, but I think flawed is an accurate description.

That could be very very good.

Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card… that would be cool.

    Hi,
The Star Wars films are based on The Star War novella from 1963. I helped with stories and characters for the ‘first four’ films and modeled for Yoda (Yo! Duh!). Princess Leia Organna of Aulderaan was named after leah Aulder, Steve Spielberg’s mom’s name, and modeled after, who else? Hillary Clinton when she was 24 (and really abrasive).
I worked on Close Encounters, E.T., Galaxy Quest, Independence Day, Armageddon, Deep Impact, Star Wars I, II, III, IV, V, and VI, LOR l, ll, lll, Back to the Future l,ll,lll, Raiders of the Lost Arc, Indiana Jones 2,3, Titannic, Signs, Batman, Spiderman, Hellboy, V for Vendetta. Yet nobody ever asks me anything.
