Who Should Direct Ender’s Game Movie?

With the news that Wolfgang Peterson is no longer attached to the movie adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game, the question arises, who should direct the movie?

The plan is for filming to start on Ender’s Game in early 2009 so time is tight. But currently not only do they not have a director, they also don’t have an actor cast for the lead role of child prodigy Ender Wiggin. More positively, Orson Scott Card has apparently finished a draft of the script for the Ender’s Game movie

Thinking about the book and what sort of movie it might make, I’m trying to come up with good candidates to direct it. Ideally I think you want to give the film a veneer of gritty realism. Something along the lines of a war movie (which is what it basically is after all).

Ideally they wouldn’t get too sucked into the sci-fi special effects line of thinking. The focus ought to be on the characters and their interaction. I don’t picture anything glitzy about the training these children go through in their war games.

So who would make a great director for Ender’s Game?

  1. How about Andrew Niccol?

Love this book, not too sure about follow ups…Did quite like the OCD treatment in the 3rd one though.

  2. Wow I had no idea they were doing a movie - DH will be psyched about this. As to who to direct it? Not a clue as I don’t keep up with that - but I wouldn’t want it to be goofy, or too serious either. More like an early star warsy feel? My 2 cents…
