Wonder Woman Film To Be Set In Modern Day

Category: Films
published May 20th, 2005

Joss Whedon, the writer and director of the upcoming movie Wonder Woman has indicated in an interview with Now Playing magazine that his film will be set in the present day. Wonder Woman's origins go back to World War II and the first season of the tv series was also set in World War II. Whedon said that the film and story will be set in the modern day but that Wonder Woman herself will never be in the modern day.

Whedon is still finishing up on his movie Serenity and noted that he hasn't gotten as far as considering casting for the Wonder Woman movie yet. He said that he plans to write the part first then cast to fit the role.

On the subject of the story, Whedon pointed out that Wonder Woman doesn't have a strong arch-enemy the way that Superman has Lex Luthor or the X-Men have Magneto, but that given her link to Greek mythology he has a whole range of possibilities open to him.
