Here’s a link for those of you who want to pursue science fiction (or fantasy) writing yourselves. WriteSF.com is the brainchild of author Jeffrey A. Carver. Carver has recent written a novelization of the Battlestar Galactica miniseries and is also the author of a number of original science fiction books including the Chaos Chronicles (Vol 1: Neptune Crossing) which he’s currently writing a fourth volume of.
The origin of WriteSF is actually a television series called Science Fiction and Fantasy Writing which was developed for the Massachusetts Corporation of Educational Telecommunications back in 1995 and broadcast to schools around the country. The course was then revised and expanded for a software program.
The course offers several modules covering: getting from idea to story; world building; creating human and alien characters; plot and conflict; rewriting and others. The primary focus of the course was young adult writers, but Carver feels that there’s valuable information for any aspiring writer.
